Business sectors served

Our expertise reflects us serving clients in a wide range of business sectors.

About Us

Ross and Partners emerged from the former businesses run by Chris (formerly Wilkinson Ross & Partners and C V Ross & Co). Our client base consists of individuals that have created successful businesses and we are proud to say that we have been involved in their growth and success.

Most of our clients are involved in one way or another in the property market, either as landlords, developers, land owners or building contractors. Nevertheless, our client base is quite diverse with clients involved in the restaurant trade, retail and wholesale trades and specialist IT market.

We are proud that many of our clients come to us by way of recommendation from existing clients and while we have clients across the country most are based in the Bristol, Kingswood, Hanham, Warmley and South Gloucestershire area.

We feel that we have the expertise to help clients with VAT, particularly in the construction industry and with their personal and corporate tax planning.

We like to think that we provide a timely and caring service and are approachable to meet the needs of all of our clients.

Alan

ACCOUNTS PARTNER

LinkedIn

Alan began his career as junior/trainee in September 1992 of an office of a small regional group of practices from the West Midlands.

Alan gained experience of manual ledgers, VAT and accounts preparation, manual and computerised payroll, company and personal tax, company and business administration and left their employment in 2001 as the office manager reporting to the director and overseeing all departments of the small practice.

In 2001, Alan then moved to a practice, as an Accounts Manager and then Business Operations Manager, specialising in the licensed trade.  The family run business had just been acquired by a national group of accountants just before his commencement.

In 2006, along with Chris, Alan founded C V Ross & Co Limited (now Ross & Partners) before bringing in two other partners where he has been instrumental in the success of the practice.

Alan has a broad knowledge of VAT, especially in the construction industry where he actively advises some of the practices largest clients on the intricacies of the VAT system.

Alan is a lifelong Liverpool fan and keen road cyclist.  He is a wine connoisseur and enjoys the challenge of pairing different varieties of wine with food, with the help of a range of cookbooks.

Craig

accounts partner

LinkedIn
Craig began his career in working for a four partner practice in Clifton, as an accounts junior, where he quickly obtained his AAT qualification.

After moving to a small practice in Staple Hill, Craig enjoyed being exposed to a wealth of different roles and experience which ultimately shaped his career going forwards.

Craig then moved to another small practice in Clifton, before making the move to Bath and joining Moore UK as a senior accountant where he enjoyed a short stay, dealing with large corporate businesses, before joining C V Ross & Co (now Ross & Partners) in 2014.

Upon joining C V Ross, Craig moved through the ranks before being made a partner in early 2021.

Craig places a particular emphasis on forming, and maintaining, strong relationships with his clients and enjoys the challenge of meeting their needs.

Craig deals with a number of clients based in the construction industry as well as property developers, property owners, IT contractors and fibre optic cabling specialists.

On weekends, Craig enjoys spending time with his young family, occasionally running, playing golf and is a Bristol City season ticket holder.

Chris

tax partner

LinkedIn

Chris started his tax career with H M Revenue & Customs in 1975 and became gamekeeper turned poacher in 1979 , moving from the Inland Revenue to join the Bristol office of Grant Thornton where he spent 10 happy years

Chris qualified as a Chartered Tax Advisor whilst employed by Grant Thornton and soon after, he set up in business in April 1989 to provide general accounting and taxation.

After running his own practice for 17 years, Chris founded C V Ross & Co (now Ross & Partners) and has been successfully advising clients ever since.

Chris has had a long and happy time in the profession and hopes to continue learning as new tax laws are introduced on a regular basis.

Chris is married with four children, all of whom have had short stints working at the practice although none have committed to following in his footsteps (yet!).

He is a keen golfer and enjoys a round of golf at his local club Chipping Sodbury – although his handicap might suggest otherwise!  Chris is a lifelong Spurs fan and occasionally frequents the Memorial Stadium to watch Bristol Rovers but only if the hospitality suite is on offer.

James

tax partner

LinkedIn
James is a chartered tax advisor who provides a broad range of advisory services to clients.

He enjoys working with clients to identify tax efficient ways of achieving their business aims, conducting technical research (in legislation and case law), preparing detailed analysis for clients and identifying fundamental arguments to assist in implementing complex planning arrangements.

Having worked in a range of roles and environments, James began his tax career working in the tax department of a well-known private bank.  During his time at the bank, he oversaw the production of tax documentation for clients and provided advice on the tax implications of complex share transactions and international investment income.  He also worked within the compliance department and assisted in the preparation and delivery of tax returns to private clients.

James left the bank to work for a Boutique tax firm in north Bristol.  Initially specialising in tax investigation work, he delivered and negotiated complex tax disclosures with HMRC spanning multiple individuals and entities, covering periods of up to twenty years.   Over time, James moved away tax investigation work to provide tax advisory services to clients and other professionals, with a particular emphasis planning in relation to owner managed businesses and property investors, including reorganisations, employee share schemes, retirement and IHT planning.

He has designed and delivered courses and lectures to property investors and other interested parties in connection with asset protection and tax planning for a number of years and enjoys meeting past students and learning about their asset protection journeys.

Outside of work, James enjoys spending time with his family, partially completing DIY projects around the house and fishing (a hobby which has pursued for over a decade, without ever demonstrating any tangible improvement).
